Legend of Alas Purwo

For the citizens of Banyuwangi (East Java, Indonesia), Alas Purwo is famous as one of the haunted places. Local villagers believed, there is a genies/demons palace in Alas Purwo where all genies and demons in Java gathered. Even the local villagers often see ghost sightings and other unexplained phenomena. Alas Purwo National Park is situated on Blambangan Peninsula in Banyuwangi regency, at the southeastern tip of East Java province. The park is famous for its wild Banteng (bull) and surfing location at Grajakan Bay. Alas Purwo means the first forest or ancient forest.

There is an ancient story that mentions Ajisaka in the past visting the Java island, he is one of the important figures or the predecessor King in the land of Java. At that time there was an old story that Ajisaka get Suryaloka revelation to establish a state or kingdom and his descendants will be king as successor in Alas Purwo. Suryaloka revelation given because during Ajisaka rule as a king, the state or kingdom will experience disaster which led to destroy the kingdom. Then Ajisaka meditate and get a guidance to enter Alas Purwo.

Location of Alas Purwo (Orange area)

Short stories Ajisaka sent his troops into Alas Purwo three times, but all of them did not come back, until finally Ajisaka leading his own troops entering Alas Purwo. Upon arriving in Alas Purwo precisely on the shoreline, all Ajisaka troops mysteriously disappeared, only Ajisaka himself who is still alive. When Ajisaka want to enter Alas Purwo, suddenly he was greeted with Suryadharma or better known as the reincarnation of Bathara Vishnu. By the guidance of Bathara Vishnu, Ajisaka advised not to enter into Alas Purwo directly, but it is recommended before entering Alas Purwo he should go into Alas Ketonggo first. But because Ajisaka already affected by the black aura coming out from the dimensional gate of Alas Purwo, then Ajisaka did not follow the advice of Bathara Vishnu and entering Alas Purwo directly. After he enter the dimensional gate of Alas Purwo, he disappeared and trapped there until now.

Each year, hundreds and even thousands of Hindus from Bali and Banyuwangi visiting the temple which situated in the middle of the Alas Purwo. In fact, when the 1st Suro or Javanese new year, many people who come to the Alas Purwo to meditate, or just looking for a guidance, especially when the full moon comes.

It is rumored that there is three sacred weapon hidden inside the Alas Purwo which guarded by a powerful demon called Kala. Kala has a kingdom named Purwakala, so anyone or even gods will not be able to enter into Purwakala easily. This is because of the sacred weapons act as the royal seal. The sacred weapons are:
  • Sacred Spear Shang Talaka
It has triangular pointy shape with small circles under the eye of the spear and wrapped in shiny white light.

  • Shang Sung Holy Weapon
It has the crescent-shaped with 1 meter diameter. The sacred weapon wrapped in a very white light and smelled with sweet fragrance around it.

  • Keris Raja Negara
It looks like Keris Bali and it is one of the Keris which belongs to the King Syailendra dynasty era.

Alas Purwo or Holy Purwakala is one of the mystical kingdom in Java. If any person dare to enter the kingdom with bad intention, then that person will never be able to enter the unseen kingdom. Instead that person will be lost and circling around Alas Purwo.

The Black Knight Satellite

In 1954, according to newspapers including the St. Louis Post Dispatch and the San Francisco Examiner reported that the United States Air Force detect one or two unknown satellite circling the earth in Polar Orbit, said UFO researcher Donald Keyhoe. At that time, the United Stated nor the Russians possessed the technology to maintain a spacecraft in Polar Orbit. This unidentified object later dubbed as the Black Knight Satellite. Frank Judson, who has been studying the object in conjunction with Robert L. Johnson, director of the Adler Planetarium sums up the conclusions about the thing of unknown origin: “It’s not a meteor because it’s much too slow. And it’s not an artificial man-made satellite..."

Apparently, the Black Knight satellite has been transmitting radio signals towards the Earth over 50 years ago and later inspected by NASA astronauts yet only a few on Earth officially know of its existence. In 1899, Nikola Tesla was the first man to “intercept” a signal from the Black Knight satellite after building a high-voltage radio device in Colorado Springs. The signal was clearly repeated periodically with such a clear suggestion of number and order. This lead him to believe that the signal was extraterrestrial communication with aliens. At first he assumed they were originating from Mars. Later he changed that opinion and stated in one of his new conferences that the signal was coming from somewhere else in space.

St. Louis Post Dispatch and the San Francisco Examiner article

In the 1920s, amateur HAM radio operators were able to receive this same signal. Next, scientists in Oslo, Norway experimenting with short wave transmissions into space in 1928, began picking up Long Delay Echoes (LDEs), a not fully understood phenomenon in which they received echoes several seconds after transmission.

In 1957, an unknown “object” was seen “shadowing”  the Sputnik 1 Spacecraft. According to reports, the “unidentified object” was in Polar Orbit. Polar orbits are often used for earth-mapping, earth observation, capturing the earth as time passes from one point and reconnaissance satellites. This would put the Black Knight in the category of a observational Satellite.

In the 1960's the Black Knight satellite was located once again in Polar Orbit. Astronomers and Scientists calculated the objects weight to be over 10 tons which would be at that time the Heaviest Artificial Satellite to orbit our Planet.

In February 1960 there was a further report that the US Navy had detected a dark, tumbling object in an orbit inclined at 79° from the equator with an orbital period of 104.5 minutes. Its orbit was also highly eccentric with an apogee of 1,728 km (1,074 mi) and a perigee of only 216 km (134 mi). At the time the Navy was tracking a fragment of casing from the Discoverer VIII satellite launch which had a very similar orbit. The dark object was later confirmed to be another part of this casing that had been presumed lost.

from mission STS-88 (1998)

In 1973, Scottish researcher Duncan Lunan wanted to know for certain. He went back to the Norwegian scientists' LDE data and analyzed it. Lunan discovered that it was a star chart pointing the way to Epsilon Boötis, a double star in the constellation of Boötes. Whatever Black Knight was, it appeared to be transmitting an invitation from the people of Epsilon Boötis, an invitation that was 12,600 years old, according to Lunan's analysis. However, Lunan later found that his analysis had been based on flawed data and withdrew it, and at no time did he associate it with the unidentified orbiting object.

In 1998, when the space shuttle Endeavor made its first flight to the International Space Station on flight STS-88. Astronauts aboard Endeavor took many photographs of a strange object, which were widely available to the public on the NASA website.

Berzerk The Mysterious Arcade Games

Berzerk is a controversial shooter arcade game released by Stern in 1980, because it was the first video game known to have been involved in the death of a player which occurred in 1981 and then in 1982. The gameplay of Berzerk is as follows, the player controls a green stick man, representing a humanoid. Using a joystick (and a firing button to activate a laser-like weapon), the player navigates a simple maze filled with many robots, who fire lasers back at the player character. A player can be killed by being shot, by running into a robot or an exploding robot, coming into contact with the electrified walls of the maze itself, or by being touched by the player's nemesis, Evil Otto. The indestructable Evil Otto is the game's timer, forcing the player to move on.

In 1981, it became the first video game linked to the death of a player, when 19 year old Jeff Dailey died of a heart attack shortly after posting a high score of 16,660. One year later, the game would kill again in 1982, when a 18 year old Peter Burkowski (Bukowski) died of a heart attack after posting 2 top scores also similar with the previous player in 15 minutes. Rumours abound that the game was cursed, with both Dailey's and Burkowski's fatal score containing 666, the mark of the beast.

According to Chicago Tribune article entitled 'Heart fails video player':
"An 18 year old suburban Chicago youth died of a heart attack while playing a video game, the Lake County Ind., coroner ruled Monday.

Deputy Lake County Coroner Mark Allen said the possibility that Peter Bukowski of South Holland III, died earlier this month as a direct result of stress caused by the game was investigated, "but we don't want to say video game represent enough exertion to have brought on the attack...

...The official cause of Bukowski death is a heart attack brought on by a myocardial inflammation. He collapsed April 3 at the Friar Tuck game room in River Oaks Shopping Center and was pronounced dead at St. Margaret's Hospital, Hammond."... Corroner's office investigators inspected the "Berzerk" game that Bukowski had been playing, but found no electronic defects."

Peter had not been drinking when he arrived at Friar Tuck's Game Room in Calumet City, Illinois. He hadn't been using drugs either. According to the owner of Friar Tuck's, Peter and a friend walked in about 8:30 p.m. Saturday, April 3, and went straight to the games. Peter was eighteen, likeable, and apparently healthy. An "A" student, he had plans to become a doctor someday. Peter was also good with the games. In fifteen minutes of play, he wrote his initials at least twice in the "Top Ten" on the Berzerk screen. Then, tired of that game, he turned, took about four steps, dropped his quarter into a second machine, and collapsed. By 9 p.m. Peter was dead. The cause: heart attack.

More than five years ago, cardiologist Robert S. Eliot, M.D. at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, noticed that same behavior in Pong players. Realizing that video games could be used in the lab to create the same stresses his cardiac patients face outside, he began monitoring the patients while they played the games. His findings (Eliot has charted over 1000 patients) are nothing less than startling. "We have had heart rate increases of 60 beats per minute and blood pressures as high as 220 within one minute of starting a computer game. It happens quite a lot but the patients have no awareness.

According to Dr. Eliot, one out of three people have dramatic physiological reactions to mental stress. While not enough data has been compiled to determine whether video games are dangerous for these people, there is plenty of evidence to suggest that too much stress is connected to heart disease and hypertension. At this point, Dr. Eliot, who is being consulted on the case of Peter Bukowski, has no comment.

Mysterious Reappearance of Flight 513

In 1989, according to aviation authorities report, a commercial airliner that flew out of Germany and mysteriously disappeared in 1954 has landed in Brazil - with its passengers and crew reduced to skeleton. And while the officials refuse to speculate on the whereabouts of the plane for the past 35 years, several respected scientists, including paranormal researcher named Dr. Celso Atello, say Santiago Airlines Flight 513 almost certainly entered a time warp and just disappeared in 1954. "There is no other explanation," Dr. Atello told newsmen in Porto ALegre, Brazil. Flight records show that the aircraft left Aachen, West Germany, on the morning of September 4, 1954, and then vanished over the Atlantic Ocean on its way to Porto Alegre later that day. At that time aviation authorities assumed that it had crashed. But the plane mysteriously reappear and landed in Porto Alegre on October 12, 1989.

"It was piloted by the skeleton of its captain and all the crew, and passengers were dead, too. Officials don't want to discuss explanations. But they cannot deny that this airplane has defied the laws of space and time. And God only knows how a skeleton managed to land it."

Unfortunately, Santiago Airlines went out of business in 1956 and executives who are still alive didn't know enough about the flight to comment.

Brazilian aviation officials themselves confirmed that the vintage Lockheed Super Constellation aircraft "appeared out of nowhere" and landed at an airstrip west of Porto Alegre on October 12, 1989.

They also said that its powerful turboprop engines were still idling when support personnel found the skeletal remains of 88 passengers and a four-man crew, including Captain Miguel Victor Cury - who was still clutching the controls.

Government agents are known to be investigating the mysterious flight. But they refuse to discuss anything about the airplane or the course of their investigation.

The official shroud of secrecy has outraged Dr. Atello and other experts who are now calling on the Brazilian government to let civilians assist in the investigative effort.

Roderigo de Manha, a retired physics professor in Porto Alegre, said: "The public has a right to know everything about this plane and the government has a duty to tell them.

"If this plane did enter a time warp and there is evidence to prove it, the entire world should be told. Something like this could change the way we view our world and alter science as we know it.

"It is crime to keep information like this secret - especially from the relatives of the people who perished on Santiago Airlines Flight 513."

Aluminium Wedge of Aiud The Mysterious Object

In 1974 a mysterious object has been found 2 kilometers East of Aiud, Romania on the banks of the Mures river. Upon examination, the object – which resembled a hammer head – later known as Aluminium Wedge of Aiud. Based on an article written by Boczor Iosif (a contributor to Hungarian paranormal magazines), it was reported to be unearthed 35 feet under sand and alongside two mastodon bones. It is composed of 89% aluminium covered by a thick oxide layer. It was examined a second time in Lausanne, Switzerland, with the same results. The object also allegedly taken to the Archaeological Institute of Cluj-Napoca to be examined, where the thickness of this oxide layer is said to be confirmation that the object is anachronistic, at least three-hundred or four-hundred years old, while the mastodon bones at least 11,000 years old. Apparently, the alloy of the wedge is composed of 12 different elements.

Aluminium Wedge of Aiud

The aluminium wedge of Aiud is often cited as “proof” that aliens visited earth at earlier times, because aluminium was not discovered until 1808 and not produced in quantity until 1885. Aluminum is abundant in the earth’s crust but it is always combined with other minerals and the wedge predates the technology used to extract it. An aeronautical engineer suggested that the wedge is similar to the foot of landing gear used on spacecraft. The scientific community believes ‘the wedge was made on earth and its purpose is not yet identified’. Most scientists, however, believe that this object is a fake.

Mystery of Lake Vostok

After decades of drilling, a major achievement hailed by scientists around the world. Lake Vostok likes buried beneath Antarctica and hasn't been exposed to air or light in millions of years. Lake Vostok is very large—as big as Lake Ontario—beneath the Continental Ice Sheet in East Antarctica, located 800 miles from the South Pole. 35 million years ago, when the climate was warmer, it was thought to have been open to the air and surrounded by forests. The researchers said: 'At that time, the lake probably contained a complex network of organisms.' They think that the organisms were sealed in the lake, which is around a quarter of a mile deep, by the thick ice approximately 15 million years ago. One goal of the dig was to see whether some strange creatures lurked in that darkness. Perhaps even more mysterious is the discovery of an extremely powerful source of magnetic energy at the north end. No formal explanation for this anomaly has been made public, but Richard Hoagland believes it might be the result of accumulated metals as in the remains of a lost city. Author Rand Flem-Ath and others have argued for years, that beneath Antarctica’s ice may lie the ruins of Atlantis however it's still unproven.

The outlines of Lake Vostok are clearly visible in satellite imagery. Ice-penetrating radar indicates its water is up to 2000 feet deep. It has an overarching dome up to one-half mile in height. Estimates of filtered light at the surface indicate something like “continuous first-morning light” during summer months. Thermographic imaging has suggested an amazing 50-degree Fahrenheit average water temperature, with “hot spots” approaching 65 degrees—temperature levels attributable only to subsurface geothermal heat. At 300 miles long and 50 miles wide, the encapsulated atmosphere should have the ability to cleanse itself through interaction with the lake, and just possibly plant life. Their drilling project had been temporarily stopped in response to international anxieties.

In an article this past summer in the journal Geophysical Research Letters, Chris McKay at NASA’s Ames Research Center warns the Russian effort could result in a geyser rising thousands of feet into the air and loss of life to the drillers. McKay believes high pressure gases accumulated in the lake cavity would act in the same way as those in a shaken Coca Cola, only on a far greater scale. McKay’s concerns are echoed by environmentalists who worry about contaminating an ancient pristine site. NASA’s motives, however, have been questioned in some quarters. Suspicion arose early in 2001 and raged across the Internet when the agency abruptly announced that it would discontinue efforts to explore the lake. Rumors of national security issues swirled amid talk of secret bases, magnetic anomalies, and ancient civilizations.

In February 2012, Russian scientists finally breached Lake Vostok. The lake lies beneath 3.5 kilometres of ice, and has been cut off from the rest of the world since Antarctica froze 14 million years ago. Based on two years of computer analysis of DNA sequences from ice samples, the final results showed that Lake Vostok contains a diverse set of microbes, as well as some multicellular organisms. Over 3,500 DNA sequences were identified in samples of ice 'as clear as diamonds' extracted from the ice, of which 95 percent were associated with types of bacteria.

According to a story on Russian news wire Ria Novosti.Sergei Bulat, a researcher at the Laboratory of Eukaryote Genetics at the St. Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute, said, “After excluding all known contaminants … we discovered bacterial DNA that does not match any known species listed in global databanks. We call it unidentified and 'unclassified' life.” But few days later, Eukaryote genetics laboratory head Vladimir Korolyov told the Interfax news agency that they did not find any life forms -- just contaminants that remained from the drilling process.

Dr Scott Rogers, a Bowling Green State University professor of biological sciences and his team found sequences that are similar to types of fungi as well as water fleas, arthropods and a mollusk. Interestingly some of the bacteria are generally found in fish guts, suggesting that there could be fish in the subterranean lake, according to the research published in the PLOS ONE journal.

'These organisms may have slowly adapted to the changing conditions in Lake Vostok during the past 15 to 35 million years when the lake converted from a terrestrial system to a subglacial system.'

Several of the sequences are similar to organisms that live near deep sea thermal vents, leading researchers to believes that Lake Vostok might contain similar features in its icy depths. Hydrothermal vents could provide sources of energy and nutrients vital for organisms living in the lake,' the scientists said.

Siirt Poltergeist Case

On the night of 13 August 2012, a bizarre incident occurred in the town of Siirt, Turkey when street vendor named Zeki Toprak, his wife and four children were woken by the smell of smoke and discovered a fire in their simple three-room residence. Almost all of the family's belongings and furniture have been reduced to ashes for unknown reason. The Toprak family's household items apparently catch fire spontaneously, with some people believing that the fires have been caused by supernatural forces. Although firemen quickly extinguished the blaze, they were baffled as to how it started – because it had, most unusually, broken out on a bare ceiling, well away from readily combustible material. Power company technicians also attended and found nothing wrong with the house’s wiring. Over the course of the next few months, scores of other small fires broke out, during both day and night, on walls and ceilings, as well as on clothes, prayer mats, carpets, plastic tubs and inside closed cabinets.

Similar mysterious fires have also broken out in the classroom of fifth-grade-student Melek Toprak (eldest daughter of Mr. Toprak). The coat, notebooks, books and several other items belonging to Melek Toprak have caught fire spontaneously in front of the students and teacher's eyes in the classroom. The teacher of Melek Toprak told Anatolia that they searched Melek Toprak for any material or substance which could have caused the fires, but did not find anything.

Terrified of being incinerated, the family moved their bedding and most precious belongings onto a balcony, where they slept for nearly two weeks – until the fires followed them outside. Although not as frightening as the fires, plenty of other strange phenomena disturbed the tranquillity of the home. Clothes and other objects repeatedly disappeared, only to reappear in unlikely places. A washing machine also got in on the act, plugging itself into a socket and beginning its cycle. Desperate to escape the potentially lethal weirdness, the family moved to a relative’s house – but the fires again followed.

Feeling, not unreasonably, that something decidedly uncanny was going on, the Topraks appealed for help to the local imams, who declared the phenomena to be the work of mischievous djinn, and attempted to cleanse the site with prayer. Siirt Province Mufti Faruk Arvas also pointed out that the fires might be due to the djinn. In Islam, the djinn are spirit beings that can be good or evil. Arvas stated: “According to our faith, there are beings called djinn. The fires might have been started by such beings.”

Each time the family called the clerics, however, the fires flared up even more frequently, seemingly aggravated by the religious ritual. The imams having failed, Mr Toprak appealed for help to the Siirt District Governor, Ahmet Aydın, who, accompanied by a Kanal 56 television crew, promptly visited, interviewed the family and inspected the damage. Although the djinni refrained from starting any major fires, cameraman Soyler Ozan, on leaving the residence, felt a burning sensation and found that a section of the sole of his shoe had melted. Duly impressed, the Governor declared the problem a “transcendent (i.e. paranormal) event”.

By now the story had reached the mainstream Turkish media, and dozens of reports soon appeared in regional and city newspapers, on television and radio.

As interest peaked, the Rector of Siirt University, Professor Murat Erman, decided to see if science could shed some light on the situation. In late December, his team, including a psychiatrist, a sociologist, a physicist and several engineers, interviewed the family and, together with the police, set up cameras to monitor key points throughout the house. Frustratingly for the scientists, the poltergeist, djinni – or hoaxer – refused to perform on cue, and all the fires that occurred during the month-long investigation flared up just outside the cameras’ limited fields of view.

In late February, in a three-page report that addressed only the fires and ignored the other strange aspects of the case (such as the cameraman’s hot foot), the boffins presented their predictably sceptical conclusions: “This commission believes that: possibility of metaphysic involvements is negligible. Wholly comprehending the problem requires a long time observation of a socio-physiologic nature of all members of the Toprak family.” The clear suggestion was that the family was hoaxing the phenomena. Most damningly, the report stated, falsely, that the Toprak children had been caught with cigarette lighters.

Deeply insulted, and exhausted by the attention, the family packed up and moved 140km (87 miles) south to Cizre, hoping once again to outrun their demon.

By March 2013 they’d lived in six different residences, but each time they moved the fiery nightmare dogged their steps. In the seven months since the terror began, it was claimed, no fewer than 300 blazes had occurred.

Mr. Toprak said, “We bought all our own furniture; I worked hard for it – why would we burn it?”. He said he didn’t want money or notoriety, just a peaceful place to live and work. “We always pray,” he said, with evident sincerity, “that nobody else will have to experience this.” His wife and children eagerly confirmed all the facts as reported in the media, and provided interesting additional details.

Shortly before the first fire, they’d had to call a locksmith when a key inside the front door of their original house had, seemingly impossibly, turned and locked them all outside.

Mrs Toprak described how, on another occasion, she’d set out plates for breakfast, stepped into another room, and returned moments later to find them gone. They were discovered arranged neatly in the garden. A TV remote, a mobile phone and other appliances also vanished from closed rooms and were, apparently, teleported outdoors.

Mr Toprak was still very annoyed about Dr Murat’s report, particularly his allegation that the children had been caught with cigarette lighters. The truth was somewhat different.

“One night in Siirt,” he explained, “we were all sleeping in the same room because we were so scared, and all of a sudden we smelled smoke and searched the other rooms. We found nothing, but when we returned to our bedroom we saw our beds burning. Then I found a lighter under my pillow – but where it came from we don’t know.”

So the academics would never have known about the lighter if Mr Toprak hadn’t mentioned it – yet they gave a different account of its discovery and implied that the entire family were mentally disturbed hoaxers.

Mr Toprak was also exasperated that the academics focused entirely on the fires and ignored the other strange phenomena: “We told them, but they didn’t publish what we’d said.” He had also told them the fires probably wouldn’t happen for their cameras: “Because even we never see them start. We are at home always and nobody saw it in 300 times. It happens at our back, in another room; we smell it, then we realise. I think whatever happens doesn’t want to be seen.”

St. Louis Ghost Light

For more than eight decades, a mysterious light moving up and down and changing colours with various brightness has appeared over the train tracks which located south of Prince Albert and north of St. Louis, Saskatchewan, Canada. This unexplained phenomena is called St. Louis Light, or also known as St. Louis Ghost Train. Even though the line has had its tracks removed, but the phenomenon still occurs on a regular basis.

Several stories attempt to explain the lights, including that it is a phantom train, or the ghost of a drunk brakeman who lost his head to a passing train and now wanders up and down the tracks with a lantern attempting to find it. According to local legend, a CNR (Canadian National Railway) engineer was checking the tracks near St. Louis when he was struck by a train and decapitated. It's said the bright, yellowish light belongs to the old steam locomotive pulling his train. The smaller, red one, is the lantern he's using in a futile search for his head.

On November 1, 2001, Mayor Emile Lussier told CBC News , that he was present when a scientist came to the site to investigate the mysterious appearance of the ghost light. According to Lussier, the scientist left baffled by the maneuvers of the engineer’s lantern. The light would appear behind them, but when they turned around, the ghostly illumination appeared right at their heels.

Few years later, Alysha and Shannon, who live in northern Saskatchewan decided to investigate the mysterious light. They were two grade 12 students at that time and they also won science fair gold medals for investigating and eventually duplicating the phenomenon. Based on their research, an optical phenomenon called "diffraction" may be the answer. Light passing through a small opening -- perhaps some distant trees on either side of the old track bed -- can diffuse and expand in size. In other words, headlights from a car normally too tiny to be noticed could become apparent through diffraction. However, there is a problem with their theory: the light has been seen even before cars were invented. Also, sometimes, other lights appear, which are unlikely to come from cars, as they are in the trees.
