For a number of years reports of large, black, triangle shaped UFOs have intrigued investigators. The black triangles appear to superficially resemble Stealth type aircraft, the differences being that the black triangles are usually extremely large, fly at speeds slower then possible to maintain lift, and are totally soundless. Starting in 1983, the residents of the Hudson Valley area of New York and nearby Connecticut have seen some very strange objects in the night sky. The UFOs have been described as larger than a football field with multicolored flashing lights. The object seems to take on a boomerang shape, but at times it also has appeared circular. Most witnesses report that it is a solid object made up of some type of very dark, gun-grey material. The object has been seen by at least five thousand witnesses that include police officers, scientists, and people from all walks of life. All say that the silent, slow moving UFO was something that they had never seen before and could not identify.
Black triangle UFOs have been reported to be visible to radar, as was the case with the famous Belgian UFO wave. During 1989 and 1990, thousands of people in the nation of Belgium saw large triangular shaped UFOs in the sky. The sightings were often captured on film and video. The Belgian military sent jet fighters to chase some of the UFOs. Two Belgian F-16s attempted to intercept the objects (getting a successful missile lock at two occasions) only to be outmaneuvered.
In at least one instance, a military jet locked radar on one of the UFOs at the same time as it was being tracked by ground-based radar. Both radars measured the UFO doing maneuvers that would be considered impossible for a human aircraft, and because of the two separate radar readings, these findings are considered highly reliable. Finally a Belgian military spokesman went on TV to say that he could not explain what was happening.
On March 30, 1993 multiple witnesses across south-west and west England saw a large black triangle at low speeds. Analysis of the sightings by Nick Pope concluded that the object moved in a north-easterly course from Cornwall to Shropshire over a period of approximately 6 hours. The sightings report clearly visible objects over densely populated areas and highways, mostly in the United States and Britain, but other parts of the world as well.
A geographic distribution of U.S. sightings has been correlated by a currently inactive American-based investigative organization, the National Institute for Discovery Science (NIDS), which led to a July 2002 report which suggested that the craft may belong to the U.S. Air Force; however, a subsequent report in August 2004 by the same organization (NIDS) found that the rash of sightings did not conform to previous deployment of black project aircraft and that the objects' origins and agendas were unknown.
Recently on March 3, 2013 according to the testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database. An Oakdale, CA, family and neighbors reported watching a black, triangle-shaped object hovering in the sky at 4:15 p.m for about eight minutes before it appeared to turn and move quickly out of the area. The witness attempted to look at the object then with a telescope, but could not get it working correctly. Unfortunately, no images or videos were included with the MUFON report, which was filed on March 4, 2013.
