Dozens of cows were found dead mysteriously in the waters of Camplong Sampang Beach, Madura, Indonesia.
According to residents' reports, there were 20 cow carcasses floating, but the results of data collection from the Camplong Police and the Fisheries, Livestock and Agriculture Service of Sampang, there were 14 cows. All of them are Madurese cattle.

According to Wikipedia, Madurese cattle also known as Madura cattle (Sapi Madura) are a stable, inbred hybrid of Zebu (breed from Sri Lanka) and Banteng (Bos javanicus).

They originated from the island of Madura just northeast of Java, in Indonesia where the original cattle population was the wild Banteng, very similar to Balinese cattle. The coloration is reddish brown with non-specific white patterning on the back and rump.
"The dead cow was found on the coast of Dusun Pesisir, Dharma Village, at around 08.00 AM (Western Indonesian Time). The cows that died on the coast were first discovered by local residents, then reported to the Camplong Police Headquarters," he said Thursday (14 April 2022).

From the results of the local veterinary investigation from the relevant service, he said, there was no indication of poisoning or traces of abuse.
The police also coordinated with officers of the Sampang Integrated Marine Security Post (Kamladu) regarding the possibility of a cattle transporting ship sinking in Sampang waters.
"Kamla Sampang reports that there are no incidents of a sinking ship, or a sinking cow transporting ship."
After brief inspection, he said, the cows were evacuated to the shore and will be drowned in the sea. Catur Raharjo, Head of the Police and Air Force (Polairud) said that the evacuation process was agreed to be sunk into the middle of the sea.
Moh Ihsan Zain, a postgraduate student at the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Yogyakarta, said such incidents need a serious response and be handled directly by the local office. Moreover, he said, the cause of death of these cows is not known with certainty.
He suspected, the cows were affected by the disease. "This needs to be taken seriously immediately."
In January 2022, a case of Bovine Ephemeral Fever or BEF virus was found in cattle in Sampang.
"BEF is a disease that attacks ruminants or cattle, goats and sheep," he said.
