According to Wikipedia, the chalk cliffs was formed in the Late Cretaceous epoch, between 66 and 100 million years ago, when the area was under the sea. During the Cenozoic Era, the chalk was uplifted. When the last ice age ended, sea levels rose and the English Channel formed, cutting into the chalk to form the dramatic cliffs along the Sussex coast.

A book written by Tom Hunt, titled Cliffs of Despair: A Journey To The Edge, tells the complete story of Beachy Head’s tragic past. Hunt claims that since 1965, more than 500 people have jumped to their deaths. in 2004, 34 people jumped from its top.
In 2018, a cliff patrolman found three bodies together at the cliff’s base. Many who walk to the edge give mention of an overwhelming sudden feeling of depression and hopelessness, and they report that quick gusts of wind and a sinister force seem to try to push them over the edge.
